HALO PRIME MOVER ARCHITECTURE
Modular. Redundant. Battery‑Driven. Engineered for 300 RPM Precision.
Every HALO system — from the HALO‑110 to the HALO‑660 — is powered by Quartz’s proprietary Modular BLDC Prime Mover Architecture, a breakthrough mechanical‑electric drive system designed to keep the Vertical Axial Flux PMG locked at 300 rpm under any load.
This architecture transforms the HALO series into a self‑stabilizing power engine with unmatched reliability, efficiency, and uptime.
Modular BLDC Torque Engine (1 Active + 3 On‑Cue Redundancy)
Instead of relying on a single oversized motor, each HALO unit uses a ring of high‑efficiency BLDC drive modules, each contributing torque through a precision belt‑drive reduction system.
Each BLDC module includes:
- High‑speed BLDC motor (2,500–3,000 rpm)
- 10:1 mechanical reduction to the PMG shaft
- 22 kW torque capacity per module
- Independent drive controller
- Hot‑swap mounting plate
- PLC‑managed torque command channel
This modular approach allows the HALO system to scale torque on demand, activating only the motors required for the current load.
PLC‑Orchestrated Torque Sharing
At the heart of the HALO engine is a Siemens S7‑1200 PLC that continuously monitors:
- PMG shaft speed
- Load demand
- Battery SOC
- Motor temperature
- Drive health
The PLC dynamically decides:
- How many BLDC modules should be active
- How torque is distributed
- When to bring additional modules online
- When to isolate a module for efficiency or redundancy
This creates a self‑balancing mechanical ecosystem that maintains perfect 300 rpm stability.
Battery‑Driven, Efficiency‑Optimized
The BLDC prime mover is powered directly from the HALO’s LFP battery bank.
To protect battery life and maximize runtime:
- Only the minimum number of BLDC modules are activated at any moment
- Sleeping modules are fully isolated (zero idle draw)
- Active modules operate in their high‑efficiency torque band
- SOC‑aware logic prevents unnecessary battery drain
This ensures the prime mover is never a burden on the system — only a controlled, efficient overhead.
Scalable Power: 60 kW to 660 kW
The same BLDC module is used across the entire HALO family:
- HALO‑110 / 220 / 330:
4‑module primary ring (1 active, 3 on‑cue) - HALO‑440 / 550 / 660:
8‑module dual‑ring configuration for industrial and compute applications
This modularity gives HALO systems:
- N+1 or N+2 redundancy
- Graceful degradation under fault
- Continuous uptime for mining, AI, and mission‑critical loads
